Everyone loves a good laugh. Well, almost everyone but if you got one scrooge at your party that doesn’t want to laugh, maybe a professional comedian can help even that ice cold guest warm up with a chuckle of two.
Why should you have a comedian at your event? I can think of at least 15 reasons.
1) They don’t take up much room. That’s why they’re called ‘stand up’ comedians and not ‘takes up lots of room’ comedian.
2) Comedians save you money. It’s true. It you think about what a DJ or a Live Band costs and forgot a specialty act like a Hypnotist.
3) There are great comedians all over the country. It doesn’t matter if you live in Little Rock, Arkansas or Auburn, Main, there’s a comedian near you ready to go.
4) They’re self contained. Any good comedian worth their salt (why do we say that? I have no idea) will have their own PA system and that, with a place to stand, is all they need (see reason 1).
5) People love to laugh. Everyone does. Even people who say they don’t, do.
6) Comedians engage the audience. Stand up comedy is not a passive entertainment, live comedy usually interact with the audience and, by the end of their performance, quite often has given the group it’s own identity and inter-connectivity.
7) They’re funny. If they’re NOT funny, they’re NOT a comedian and you hired the wrong person. Make sure they’re funny.
8) There’s a lot of comedians. Don’t even worry about finding a comedian, there’s a million of them. Worry about finding a GOOD comedian.
9) They can be however you like. You want a dirty comedian? a clean comedian? How ever you want it, you can get it.
10) Anyone can be a comedian. It’s very democratic really, men, women, foreign, white, black, any ethnicity, handicapped, ANYONE can be a comedian. Odds are very much in your favor if you want a specific ethno-gender comic, you’ll get one.
11) Comics lift up the evening. When a great comic is done, people feel as if they’ve gone through a cathartic event. They exhausted in a satisfied way. Everyone has a great shared experience.
12) Comics are funny people so even when you’re hiring them, when you’re meeting them at the event, when you’re guests engage them in conversation, when it’s time to pay them, Comedians are funny and everyone at events enjoys their moment of interaction with the comic.
13) Comics excite people. Some people view comics in almost a ‘rockstar’ light. Public speaking is known as one of people’s greatest fears so when your guests encounter someone who does for a living what most people are afraid of, they get excited about seeing the comedian or getting to interact with them.
14) There is always something to laugh at whether it’s something in the popular culture at the moment, or something in your own family but there’s always something to make fun or and a great comedian will do just that.
15) They can perform anywhere. Whether it’s your local playhouse with a big stage, at the VFW hall, a restaurant or even in your living room, a comedian will get up in front of their microphone and give you the same outrageous humor at ever one. That’s what a great comedian does, they perform stand up comedy anytime, anywhere.
